Cease the Slice
One of the most asked questions that I get as a Teaching Professional is “How am I going to fix my slice!?” There are a few fundamental things to look for that can cause this shot: Check your left hand grip – are you seeing 2 ½ or even 3 knuckles, not one or two? Ensure your shoulders are square to the intended line, not aiming left of the target if you are a right handed golfer? Is the club going outside of the intended line on the backswing? Check the direction of your ba

2016 Masters Wrap - and What a Masters it Was!
What an incredible Masters week we had! Being a small group, we were able to do some things this year that no other tour from Australia gets to do! From two nights at a private golf course on the magnificent Lake Oconee to driving down Magnolia Lane, to seeing Danny Willett win his first Major, this was a Masters trip to not soon forget! Staying only ten minutes from the course (in the gated community where the Tour professionals stay), our group was able to arrive early ea
Don't Do the "S" Word (rhymes with tank...)
Stop Shanking!!! We’ve all seen them – and we all dread them…if you ever get the shanks, follow these simple steps to try to end them very quickly! Make sure that you are not swinging too flat on your backswing; Get your weight off of your toes and back towards your heels when you address the ball; Clear your front hip as you start your downswing – don’t slide. Make the left arm swing back and through the shot like a pendulum. Drill Practice with a ball just outside the ball
Hitting Behind Your Chips
To hit behind your chips and therefore have more control over your ball flight, remember the following six steps: Move the ball further back in your stance; Keep your weight on the front foot; Move your head directly over the ball; Don’t break your wrist too early in the swing; Keep from swinging around your body; Stand a little further away from the ball at the address. Hope these tips get your chipping back on line! Great golfing! See you next month! Richard #chipshots #go
Skying the Driver - Don't Do It!
If you continue to hit the ball straight up in the air, don't tee the ball lower to correct yourself, but check these things with your swing: 1. If you are taking a divot or breaking your tee every time, then your angle into the ball is too steep. You should check, Is your right hand creeping under the grip? Remember the V on your right hand should be pointing at your chin. If it is pointing at your right shoulder you are in trouble (if you are a right handed golfer); 2.
Punch Shots or Wind Shots
To keep the ball low into the wind you must: 1. Select a club with a bit less loft; 2. Grip down on the grip a little more then usual; 3. Move the ball back in your stance ( for a right handed golfer the center or just right of center); 4. This is the key to keeping the ball low - Shorten your back swing and shorten your follow through. Try to make the swing the same length going through as your back swing. Great Golfing! Bunker Shots
The key to being a great bunker player is to make no ball contact! To achieve this you have to do a few things: [if !supportLists]1. [endif]Never let the leading edge of your sand iron or lob wedge hit the sand first. The flange or the back of the club should be the first thing to hit; [if !supportLists]2. [endif]Keep an open stance (for a right handed golfer your feet should be aiming left and vice versa); [if !supportLists]3. [endif]Let the club follow th
Practice
As we all know, practice is a vital component to achievement on the golf course. When you are practicing, it is extremely important that every practice shot is the same as what you do on the course. Therefore, always use your established pre-shot routine when you practice. On every practice shot, visualise the shape of the shot and the swing you want to use. The more you practice with visualisation and intention, the more your practice will convert to positive results on t
Bunker Lesson with Weekend Sunrise's James Tobin
Had a blast last weekend with Channel 7 Weekend Sunrise's Weather presenter James Tobin. Here we did a quick bunker lesson, focusing on accelerating through the ball and taking the club just a bit outside the line. #huntervalley #golf #lesson #bunker #golfschool #chateauelan #thevintage #weekendsunrise #channel7
