AboutRichard Mercer

Named by Australian Golf Digest (January 2017) as one of the "50 Great Coaches" in Australia, Richard Mercer is the Director of Golf Instruction at The Vintage Golf Club in the Hunter Valley, Australia is one of Australia's finest teaching professionals. Richard thrives on teaching and coaching golfers of all levels, from beginner golfers through to Tour Professionals (including 2016 UBS Hong Kong Open Champion, Sam Brazel).

A member of the PGA of Australia since 1978, Richard played on the Australian, European and Asian Tours (including qualifying and playing in the 1984 British Open at St. Andrews).  Since leaving the Tour, Richard has been Head Golf Professional at several golf clubs throughout NSW and has designed and built golf courses in the Hunter Valley (Hunter Valley Golf and Country Club) and Harrington Waters.  

The game of golf is a passion for Mercer, who thrives on the successes of each of his students. “Golf is a difficult, yet rewarding game. I always strive to give my pupils something positive to walk away with that in turn will make their game that much more enjoyable.” 

With his easygoing, non-threatening, and most of all – fun approach to the game, Richard Mercer guarantees that you will leave playing golf with more skill and confidence.

Richard Mercer’s philosophy is that golf should be taught and learned in the simplest, most advantageous way possible. His excellent communication skills as an instructor have aided in the successes of his lessons and his students. “I always try as a coach to fix the source of problems rather than merely identifying the problem."

Richard Mercer provides individual and group golf lessons as well as 1, 2 and 3 day schools to golf players of all levels.
