Drawing the Ball
A good draw will be needed when you need to bend the ball around a tree or the fairway goes from right to left and you are a right handed golfer. To begin, aim your feet at the target line you wish to start the ball on…turn the club slightly in, aiming it at the ending position (or flag). Increase the knuckle count on the left hand and take the club slightly on the inside (around your body) on the backswing and hit out to the intended starting line. Great golfing! Richard #go
Skying the Driver - Don't Do It!
If you continue to hit the ball straight up in the air, don't tee the ball lower to correct yourself, but check these things with your swing: 1. If you are taking a divot or breaking your tee every time, then your angle into the ball is too steep. You should check, Is your right hand creeping under the grip? Remember the V on your right hand should be pointing at your chin. If it is pointing at your right shoulder you are in trouble (if you are a right handed golfer); 2.
Punch Shots or Wind Shots
To keep the ball low into the wind you must: 1. Select a club with a bit less loft; 2. Grip down on the grip a little more then usual; 3. Move the ball back in your stance ( for a right handed golfer the center or just right of center); 4. This is the key to keeping the ball low - Shorten your back swing and shorten your follow through. Try to make the swing the same length going through as your back swing. Great Golfing! The Impact Point
As the club head is making contact wit the ball, the left side of your body (left knee and foot) should remain firm. Never collapse your legs into the shot! Many players collapse the left knee though the impact point which is a huge no no as it creates a loss of control over the direction of the ball flight. You will see many professionals, including Peter Lonard and Rod Pampling actually set their left legs straight at the address position to avoid the collapsing effect. A
Bunker Lesson with Weekend Sunrise's James Tobin
Had a blast last weekend with Channel 7 Weekend Sunrise's Weather presenter James Tobin. Here we did a quick bunker lesson, focusing on accelerating through the ball and taking the club just a bit outside the line. #huntervalley #golf #lesson #bunker #golfschool #chateauelan #thevintage #weekendsunrise #channel7
Beginning the Downswing
To begin the downswing correctly, the body, wrists and hands should remain “quiet” or not be moved. The arms should begin the downswing, followed by the lower half of your body moving forward. The great Ben Hogan used to say that he felt like someone had let the air out of his arms so that they felt like they were falling or dropping first. Do not think that the body generates more power if you move it first. The body always follows, never leads. Great golfing! See you nex
Grip and Set Up
I was always taught that your swing is only ever as good as your GRIP and SETUP lets it be!!!! So, our first Tip of the Month focuses on the grip, as it is the most influential part of controlling the club face through the impact point. A right handed golfer should always put the left hand on the golf club first and vice versa..... 1. Hold the club in your fingertips rather than in the palms of your hands. The way your arms and hands naturally hang should be at the same
